ZSL (Zoological Society of London) was established in 1826 as a first scientific organization in London, Great Britain.

The Zoo was opened in April 1828 to the fellows of the Society and in 1847 to the public to aid funding.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the Zoo had almost 7,000 animals. Now London Zoo is a home to more than 19,000 individual animals and insects

The world's first public aquarium was opened in 1853 at the London Zoo and now it contains over 300 different breeds of marine life.

The Reptile House, one of the most famous buildings in the zoo, was opened in 1926. A famous scene from "Harry Potter" was filmed there.

Penguin Beach was opened in 2011 and now it houses around sixty penguins of three different species.

London Zoo's mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats.
